In April of 2014 SolarX was approached by the glazing contractor of the Vibe Hotel Maryville Project to consult on the safety requirements of the glazing units that had recently been installed. It had been determined that the imported glass did not meet Australian Safety Standards and a solution was required.
SolarX identified the solution as 3M SH7 Safety Film but needed to consider several different components before proceeding.
SolarX determined that the glass was tempered not toughened, this would allow the safety film to be applied without the need for structural silicon.
Before installation SolarX had to ensure that the size of the glazing units were within the requirements of film to glass application under the Australian Standards. When the size of the panels and the film type were determined to be within the appropriate range installation commenced.
A total of 210sqm of glazing required safety film. With a short timeframe between the worksite being at an acceptable stage for a clean application and the project deadline. SolarX placed a team of 3 installers on the job and works were completed in 3 days ………a day before schedule.
The Final Product
The final product was a large amount of glazing in a high traffic area that was bought up to Australian Safety Standards. The optically clear film did not change the look of the glass in any way and the client was very happy that a solution other than replacing the glass was found.
